In Varietate Concordia Podcast: Maria João Pires - The Renaissance of Europe
In the inaugural episode of the In Varietate Concordia Podcast, Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires and host Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of the cultural heritage organisation Europa Nostra, discuss a life guided by a desire to share experiences, knowledge and values, and seek solutions for a world shaped by competition and strained by forces of division. The renowned musician reflects on her career, which has been grounded in a distinctive understanding of the relationship between artists and their audiences, humans and nature, and the multiple disciplines and perspectives that inform the organisation of our society. She advocates for a new “Renaissance of Europe” built on the articulation of different forms of knowledge, cultural diversity, and common values. In Varietate Concordia is an initiative co-organised by Europa Nostra and the Centro Nacional de Cultura (CNC), with support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in the framework of the EU-funded European Heritage Hub. Through its live talks, podcasts and columns, this ambitious initiative seeks to inspire reflection, provoke meaningful debates on the main challenges facing Europe, and ultimately drive action in defence of Europe’s core values such as democracy, justice, equality, solidarity and sustainability.
