June 24 and Kenya’s Unfinished Liberation One Kenya, One Nation, One People
As Kenya approaches June 24, this reflection commemorates the painful events surrounding the Finance Bill protests of June 2024 and asks what Kenyans must learn from that moment. Prof. Ngure wa Mwachofi reflects on Kenya’s unfinished liberation — from European imperial conquest, land dispossession, taxation without genuine representation, and divide-and-rule tactics, to the post-independence continuation of selfish uses of public power. The message argues that Kenya’s crisis is not simply about race, tribe, party, or one leader. It is about human beings who fail to examine their desire for power, wealth, land, status, and self-privilege. When leaders and citizens allow selfish desire to guide public life, they weaken the republic. This video explains why Kenya, as a republic, belongs to the public — not to one president, one family, one party, or one ethnic community. It also explains why ethnic political thinking undermines the idea of a republic and why Articles 1, 2, 3, and 10 of the Constitution remain central to Kenya’s future. This is a call for honest civic persuasion, constitutional responsibility, national unity, and active citizenship. Kenya belongs to the people of Kenya. One Kenya. One nation. One people. — Prof. Ngure wa Mwachofi #Kenya #June24 #FinanceBill2024 #GenZKenya #KenyaPolitics #ConstitutionOfKenya #Article1 #Article10 #CivicEducation #Leadership #Accountability #OneKenya #Republic #WilliamRuto #ProfNgureWaMwachofi #StateOfTheNation #KenyaYouth #PublicPower #EndTribalPolitics
