The Heart of the Dance
Meet Adam McKinney, Artistic Director at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre since March 2023. The Milwaukee native draws on his own experiences as an artist, athlete and dancer to bring a fresh take to the esteemed ballet company. With his warmth and empathy for his artists driving everything from how he conducts his rehearsals to the choices of works they perform, he encourages the company while working to make ballet more accessible to the entire community. He's only the seventh artistic director in PBT's history, and also the first African American to helm this acclaimed Pittsburgh arts institution.
