How to Run a More Powerful Plasma Torch (on a Small Plasma Cutter)
Have you ever thought of finding a replacement plasma torch that could be bigger and more powerful than your present torch? You probably have the P80 torch which is undeniably reliable and I have shown this in many of my videos. But now, I’m going to show you a bigger torch which is the P90 torch. But does this mean if you go for a bigger torch does this mean you can cut thicker metal? A plasma cutter torch upgrade is easy to do but you must make sure your machine can handle the extra amperages. In this video, I’m going to show you the difference not only the P90 torch can do compared to the P80 torch but also the plasma torch consumable size and how it could affect the performance of your torch. Obviously, the plasma cutter torch head assembly of the P90 has bigger features like the handle and the cutting nozzle that comes with the torch also has a bigger hole in it. However, although the replacement plasma torch’s nozzle of this P90 comes with the unit, it can also be replaced by any size of the tips that could be handled by the P80. But why change the tip when the item is delivered along with the cutting nozzle? Well, this video will show the noticeable cutting difference when replacing the tip of the P90 torch. So don’t jump to conclusions yet because you may think that a bigger torch such as the P90 torch could mean a higher cut 50 plasma air requirements. The thing is the size of the consumable cutting nozzle makes the difference in the cutting efficiency of the torch. But what’s the use of a bigger torch if there’s no difference with the plasma air requirements you may ask. Well, a bigger torch could handle a higher amp. The higher the amp, the hotter the plasma and the thicker the metal you can cut. And that’s one of the main reasons why people usually go for a replacement plasma torch as a way for a plasma cutter torch upgrade. On the other hand, the cutting efficiency of any torch could boil down to the plasma torch consumable size. For example, the cutting nozzle that comes with the P90 has a bigger hole and when I tested its plasma plasma came out in spitting action. But when I replaced the nozzle with a smaller hole, the plasma came out refined and continuous. But you must remember when plasma cutting if you want to cut thicker material your machine must be able to produce a higher amperage output . But if you are using a 40 or 50 amp machine you will never get any more power than your machines designed for.
