Yuri Dolgoruky expended enormous effort to gain the Kiev throne. He achieved his goal, but was no longer able to maintain Kyiv's former importance. After his death, the course of events changed: his son, Andrei Bogolyubsky, no longer relied on Kyiv, but on Vladimir. Why didn't Andrei Bogolyubsky need Kyiv? How did Vladimir become the new center of power? And what happened to Kiev itself after this historical turn?
