Active Directory Basics - TryHackMe Walkthrough

In this TryHackMe walkthrough, we go through Active Directory Basics and build a clear mental model of how Windows domains are managed in real environments. We cover what Active Directory is, how domains and Domain Controllers work, how users, computers, groups, and OUs are organized, and why clean AD structure matters before you start applying policies. We also walk through practical admin tasks like cleaning up OUs, delegating password reset permissions, managing computers in AD, creating and linking Group Policy Objects, forcing policy updates with gpupdate /force, and testing restrictions through a domain user account. Toward the end, we break down Kerberos vs NetNTLM authentication, then zoom out into trees, forests, and trust relationships. The goal of this room is not to make you an enterprise AD expert overnight, but to make the core concepts finally click. Once you understand domains, OUs, GPOs, authentication, and trusts, Active Directory stops looking like random Windows jargon and starts looking like the control system behind most corporate networks.
