we backpacked to this wilderness location and almost got stranded This was a hard trip as soon as we hit them Welsh mountain roads and a lot of unexpected situations happened just getting to where we had to abandon the car . At one point late in the evening out in the middle of nowhere we thought we was going to be stranded and with no internet or phone signal to be able to call for help we was on our own. We was almost stuck in the car for the night but after many hours of fighting our way up and down the snow and ice covered mountain roads and not wanting to give up , clearing snow and pushing our car up snow covered hills we could go no further and had to abandon the car almost three miles away from the bothy and walk the remaining distance through the snow and ice covered tracks of the hills in the dark finally arriving at the bothy at 2AM . Cold , wet and tired we made a brew to warm up and went straight to bed . I would just like to add that our original ETA to get to the bothy was 17.20 so this goes to show how slow going these mountain roads got and most of the time we was only doing around 10 - 15 mph due to the icy conditions and stopping a lot to break ice and clear snow with bits of our fire wood just to get down or up hills . No we was not prepared for this so that was a big mistake on our part but a mistake we will not be making again , live and learn and learn we did .
