Many Canadians pride themselves on being a country of peacekeepers. Canada proposed the UN’s first peacekeeping mission 60 years ago and for decades Canada remained one of the world’s top peacekeeping countries. But in recent years, Canada and its allies have stepped back from the world of peacekeeping, leaving some of the world’s poorest countries to now fill the void and cash-in.
