Porsche 993 Convertible top Latch motor repair!

Hi Everyone, Recently, the indicator light on the dash of our 1995 Porsche 993 Cabriolet that lets you know the top is not completely down, refused to go out. It seemed like the top was latching, but that was not the case. I pulled the right side latch motor from the top and it had incurred the dreaded broken drive gear ☹ After searching a bit (and being to stubborn to pay over $1100 for a new one), I found a replacement gear set for $120 (shipped) from AutohausAZ. In this video I got through the entire process to diagnose the issue, and then fit the new gears to the latch motor assembly. It is a tad involved with getting the drive gear on and off, but I did it with pretty standard workbench tools. This little repair can save you multiple hundreds of dollars and correct a safety issue if your top won’t latch completely.
