Hotel Rock Is NOT a 5/10 for a ZR2
We thought Hotel Rock near Blanding, Utah was going to be a fun scenic trail to an incredible Ancestral Puebloan ruin… Then we reached SOB. What started as a “5/10” trail according to OnX quickly turned into one of the sketchiest trails we’ve attempted in our 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2. Between steep slickrock climbs, off-camber ledges, high-centering, and narrow sections ahead, we ultimately made the tough decision to turn around on the southern route. But the adventure didn’t end there. Instead, we rerouted through Little Baullie Mesa and tackled the northern approach to finally reach the legendary Hotel Rock ruin overlooking Comb Ridge and Arch Canyon in Bears Ears National Monument. This trail had incredible scenery, technical obstacles, ancient history, and a reminder that sometimes the smartest off-road decision is knowing when NOT to keep pushing forward.
