The House I Can Afford… But It’s 11 Hours Away/Episode 49

For months, I’ve been waiting for the right property to come onto the market. Detached. Land for growing vegetables. Space for chickens. A workshop. Somewhere my dogs can roam. A home with real project potential. After spending the winter travelling around Scotland, very few properties came up that truly fitted what I’m looking for. So I headed to south west Wales, hoping something suitable might appear closer to friends and family. And then, just like buses, three interesting properties appeared almost at once. Two are auction properties in Aberdeenshire, both with acreage and outbuildings. One is a repossessed cottage with 4.5 acres and a guide price reduced from £150,000 to £110,000. Another is an old farmhouse with 8.7 acres that has also been reduced. The third is in the Cairngorms, in exactly the kind of woodland setting I love. The problem? They’re all around 11 hours away. So now I’m facing a difficult question: Do I stay in Wales and keep waiting for something closer to family and friends? Or do I take a chance on the sort of home and project I’ve dreamed about for years? In this episode, I share the real dilemma behind the house hunt, and why finding the right property is about much more than bricks, mortar and acreage.
