Web TV Series: The Reality of the Holy Spirit (13) Wisdom, Knowledge, and Discernment of Spirits What is revealed to us by God that is useful? What can we do? Why is it revealed to us, and what does it consist of? The Lord always moves in ways we would not expect. The various manifestations of the Holy Spirit take their name from the effect they produce when they manifest. It is a single spirit that manifests itself through the spirit of the believer and takes on various forms depending on what is needed at that moment. The manifestations of the Holy Spirit transcend natural talents and abilities but are spiritual abilities that the Holy Spirit moves through us. Word of Wisdom or language of wisdom. When it is useful, the Holy Spirit puts a word, an idea, or a thought into your mouth to offer someone a complete understanding of how to apply the truth to their life. Wisdom = application of truth to life. God gives us a "logos" of wisdom so that those who listen to us can understand what God is saying to them for their life in a given situation. If you live the life of God, the Spirit will give you words that are useful and appropriate for others' lives, an inner push. Logos of Knowledge. The same Spirit, when necessary, will make us aware of what is happening or has already happened. The Lord gives us the opportunity to announce an event without our having had the opportunity to know it. It certainly inspires the conviction that God is interested in our lives and certainly that the Spirit has given knowledge because the Lord is at work and has a plan. People are stimulated in faith; the gifts are proof that God is among us and guides us to make the best decisions to carry out the authority delegated to us on earth for the Lord. Discernment of spirits. The Holy Spirit within us reveals something to us about the spiritual environment in which we find ourselves, about the spirits around us, or even about the spirits of the people in front of us, thus the ability to diagnose the spiritual environment around us. It is the ability to see the supernatural, to distinguish, focus, and judge spirits as in a diagnosis (presence, name, nature, attitude) so we can know who we are dealing with and be effective (e.g., Prayer of Deliverance). God does not send us into the world without giving us the necessary abilities to put God's plan into practice. All these things are accomplished by the one and same Spirit, who distributes "personally" to each as He wills. God wants to make himself known and helps us gain strength in every circumstance of life, and charisms are indispensable for acting through believers who make themselves available for the Most Holy Sacrament with a pure and simple heart.
