From disrupting a dull category to transforming eyewear into a lifestyle, Lenskart has reimagined how India sees. With 2,700+ stores across 14 countries and 22 million units sold in FY25, it now ranks among Asia’s top two spectacles retailers by volume and is now eyeing an IPO estimated at ₹7,500–₹8,000 crore. On the latest episode of Young Turks Reloaded, Shereen Bhan catches up with Peyush Bansal, Chairman, MD & CEO of Lenskart, on the vision, breakthroughs, and bold bets driving the brand’s global ambition. When Lenskart began, organised eyewear retail in India was minimal, and glasses were seen mainly as medical prescriptions. “Half of India’s population needs glasses, yet two-thirds don’t wear any,” Bansal notes. Lenskart transformed the consumer experience, making eyewear fun and accessible through virtual try-ons, personalised experiences, and removing the “patient” label. While India is often called the “blind capital of the world,” Lenskart aspires to become the “eyewear capital of the world.” But the reality is stark: India has only 60 eyewear stores per million people, compared to 1,200 jewellery stores. From the first pitch to filing the DRHP, the mission has remained constant: provide vision to a billion people.
