Halfway to 2030: Raising the Bar for SDG Leadership at WEF23
As we approach the midpoint in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, one thing is clear: the world is not delivering progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals at the pace and scale needed. While it is still possible to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, it will take urgent, scalable multi-stakeholder action to dramatically accelerate progress. Against this backdrop and in the lead-up to the 2023 SDG Summit, the UN Global Compact is taking stock of the private sector’s contribution to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and challenging companies to demonstrate bold leadership by setting measurable, credible and ambitious targets aligned with the newly launched SDG Movements – going beyond ‘business as usual’ and towards the transformational change needed to achieve the Global Goals by 2030 and pave the way for a new global economy envisioned by the UN Secretary-General’s Common Agenda. During the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in January 2023 in Davos, Switzerland, this event aimed to inspire companies to take action towards sustainable development to ensure long-term prosperity for their business, people and the planet.
