Monster Synths: Yamaha SY77 Past The Presets

The Yamaha SY77/99 is an absolute monster synth, but you would never know it judging by the really bland factory presets that emphasized the "ROMpler" side of this beast. As the evolution of the DX series, the SY77/99 can do all of those iconic sounds, but it can also go WAY beyond, and even do some decent analog modular-type stuff. Arcade Orchestra producer & 80s synth nut Jim Daneker highlights just a handful of favorite patches from this incredible synth. Note: the internal reverbs are pretty awful, so with one or two exceptions here, any reverb will come from a vintage Lexicon 300 or AMS RMX16. The SY77's chorus and "Symphonic" effects are fantastic however, so that's what you're hearing there.
