Peace, Love, and Haight: A Literary Visit to San Francisco’s Hippie Haven with Max Talley
In this episode, Jack Eidt interviews author Max Talley on his book called Peace, Love, and Haight, set in the wild San Francisco district of Haight-Ashbury in 1969. The hippie counterculture clashes with the capitalist society in the era of the Vietnam War, the push for civil rights, and the sexual revolution. We feature clips from LSD guru and CIA turncoat Dr. Timothy Leary, poet Allen Ginsberg, psychonaut Terence McKenna, political activist Eldridge Cleaver, and of course the sounds of the Grateful Dead.
