The brutal and bloody Finnish Civil War lasted for three months. This film follows a White group of soldiers from Lapua who were lead by Matti "father" Laurila. They always fought in the thick of things. Laurila's troops advanced as the White army's vanguard all the way down to Tampere and its siege. There the fiercest Urban military operation in the Nordics since took place. Finally the war ended. How did Finland come out of it? As the Heads Bow Down depicts one of Finland's darkest periods and attempts to unfurl the events through the experiences of a single military unit. The film features interviews with professor emeritus Heikki Ylikangas, PhD Vesa Määttä and PhD Aimo Minkkinen.
