Scriabin plays Scriabin ~ Deux Poemes Op. 32 ~ Hupfeld Phonola recording 1908

As with many other legendary pianists of the age, Scriabin recorded piano rolls in numbers for both Welte and Hupfeld. Although some works were duplicated, the only recordings he made of both Op 32 Poemes were for Hupfeld. The Welte and Hupfeld versions of the No. 1 Poeme are completely different, the latter being a rather more 'straight' interpretation as against the rather 'vertiginous' approach he takes in the Welte recording. His interpretation of No.2 is rather different to any other performance I have heard, and certainly the quickest. In the hands of the composer the structure and pedalling - not to mention his obvious musical intention, all make perfect sense. I recorded the second Poeme at a lower recording level - so the volume will need to be turned up for this.
