Livestock trading activity at the Tertek Pare Animal Market in Kediri Regency experienced a significant spike ahead of Eid al-Adha 2026. Hundreds of cattle entered and exited the market, which is one of the largest livestock trading centers in the Kediri region. An animal health team from the Kediri Regency Food Security and Livestock Service conducted inspections and monitoring at the animal market on Sunday morning (May 17, 2026). The monitoring was carried out to ensure the health of the livestock and to check the availability of sacrificial animals in Kediri Regency. The Acting Head of the Kediri Regency DKPP, Tutik Purwaningsih, stated that the monitoring was carried out as a precautionary measure ahead of Eid al-Adha, specifically to prevent the spread of strategic infectious animal diseases. "Today we are conducting monitoring and evaluation ahead of Eid al-Adha. We ensure that the animals entering the market are truly healthy," she explained when met at the location. Based on field inspections, they reported no cattle showing any signs of infectious diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), or other infectious animal diseases. "From our monitoring, from entering and walking around the market, thank God, we didn't find any animals showing any signs of illness, whether it's FMD, LSD, or other infectious animal diseases," she explained. In addition to ensuring livestock health, the DKPP also monitored cattle traffic, which reportedly saw a sharp increase compared to the previous year. That day, more than 300 cattle were recorded entering and leaving the Tertek Pare Animal Market. According to Tutik, the high transaction volume was driven by the high demand for sacrificial animals from various regions. Traders and buyers came not only from the Kediri area, but also from outside the region, such as Sidoarjo, Surabaya, Gresik, Madiun, Malang, and Batu. "The demand for livestock in Kediri Regency in 2026 was extraordinary. There were a lot of incoming cattle, and an extraordinary number of outgoing cattle," she said. She mentioned that many traders come in empty trucks to buy cattle in Kediri, then take them back to their hometowns. "Some come empty-handed and then transport the cattle from here. Others bring cattle and resell them at this market because there are quite a lot of buyers," she added. The busy transactions at Tertek Animal Market are also accompanied by rising cattle prices. According to the DKPP (Village and Animal Husbandry Office), cattle prices rise by around 10 to 20 percent ahead of Eid al-Adha compared to normal days. "Price increases are normal ahead of Eid al-Adha. But what's remarkable is that despite the price increase, transactions are still running smoothly. This means people's purchasing power is still strong," explained Tutik. Not only cattle, goat prices have also begun to rise, although still within normal limits. After a decline several months ago, goat prices have now returned to the normal price range ahead of the Eid al-Adha season. The Kediri Regency DKPP has also begun monitoring livestock pens in 26 sub-districts. The inspections are focused on pens owned by traders and collectors, which serve as hubs for the movement of sacrificial livestock. In addition to health checks, officers also distributed free vitamin boluses to farmers and traders at the animal market as a form of livestock health education. "We brought nearly 300 vitamin boluses. This is to help maintain livestock health and educate farmers to pay more attention to their animals' condition," explained Tutik.
