Fast Shading In Gesture Drawings: Use White Pencils!

I admit I am not the biggest fan of gesture drawings. Can you relate? Of course there’s value in studying movement, but when you’re finished and you don’t see any beauty in your drawings, it’s a bummer. This is why most of the time I approach gesture poses by looking for a little haiku of a drawing: A small section of beauty that I can minimally render in a minute. In this video, see how you can really quickly get a sense of light and shadow by using toned paper and a white pencil. These were 1 minute gesture poses done from life here at School of Realist Art.
