For this reason, a large part of the population decided to seek higher ground to start over and discovered this beautiful place where Los Villanueva Village now stands. At that time, the site was 60 meters high, making it impossible to flood. For them, it was the ideal location, as they could build a customs port because large ships passed through the San Juan River. According to historians, the majestic ruins were built by ethnic groups such as the "Comecrudos," the "Pajaritos," and the "Carrizos," some of whom were enslaved by the Spanish colony, which arrived in the region in the mid-18th century, in 1748, with the arrival of José de Escandón (known as the Count of Sierra Gorda). These buildings were made of stone, wood, and bricks imported from Monterrey by boat along the San Juan River. The large haciendas were surrounded by walls, which were built because groups of Comanche Indians and North American cattle rustlers attempted to loot homes and, primarily, steal livestock. It is believed that the first conquistadors of the northeastern region of Tamaulipas passed through this place, even before reaching the city of Reynosa. The town of Los Villanueva ceased to be one of the most important ports along the border, as well as the preferred place to live. Camargo stopped flooding due to the construction of dams and water flow systems, so many decided to return and leave the town of Los Villanueva behind, although it remains part of Camargo, Tamaulipas. #Camargo #Tamaulipas #LosVillanueva #JimmyReyes
