Pop Star on Ice (Johnny Weir Documentary)

Pop Star on Ice is a 2009 documentary directed by David Barba and James Pellerito that follows the tumultuous, behind-the-scenes life of outspoken American figure skater and three-time U.S. National Champion Johnny Weir. It focuses on the aftermath of his disappointing fifth-place finish at the 2006 Winter Olympics and his subsequent struggle to rebuild his career and qualify for the 2010 Olympic team. It highlights the clashes between his flamboyant, unapologetic personality and the traditionally image-obsessed, conservative world of figure skating. The documentary features his close bond with his longtime coach, Priscilla Hill, and his eventual decision to switch to a strict Russian coach, Galina Zmievskaya, in an attempt to master more difficult jumps.
