That's What She Said 2014 - 03 - Dr Lilian Katz and Julie Wurth

Dr. Lilian G. Katz is Professor Emerita of Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) where she serves on the staff the of Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP). Dr. Katz is a Past President of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and the first President of the Illinois Association for the Education of Young Children. Dr. Katz is Editor of the first on-line peer reviewed trilingual early childhood journal, Early Childhood Research & Practice (English, Spanish & Chinese). Dr. Katz received her PhD at Stanford University in 1968 after being a nursery school teacher. Dr. Katz has lectured in all US states and 55 other countries and has held visiting posts in Australia, Canada, England, Germany, India, Israel, the West Indies and many parts of the USA. Dr. Katz is the recipient of many honors, including two Fulbright Awards (India & New Zealand), an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree (DLitt.) from Whittier College and an honorary PhD from the University of Goteborg, Sweden. A proud East St. Louis native, Julie Wurth is one of those Champaign-Urbana short-timers who stayed — 27 years and counting. As a reporter, she’s covered schools, local government, higher education and social services for The News-Gazette. But her best job — most days, at least — is being a mom. Since 2010 she’s authored the “Are We There Yet?” column and blog, sharing her parenting mistakes, embarrassing moments and insights about kids and families. Far from being an expert—just ask her two children—Julie knows one thing about parenthood: we can’t do this alone. She believes in Santa, a daily dose of chocolate, and the power of humor (and girlfriends) to get us through almost anything. ------------------------------------------------------------------- www.SheSaidProject.com facebook.com/shesaidproject twitter.com/shesaidproject pinterest.com/shesaidproject
