Steam in the San Juan Mountains

Over the days of June 10th to 13th, a trip was made to the famous Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. One day was spent riding the train, followed by two and a half days of photography, as myself and two others attempted to photograph as much of the railroad as we could. Four different steam locomotives were captured on video, along with two of the railroad's ex. White Pass & Yukon Route DL535 diesels (107, and a one off appearance by class leader 101). Three consecutively numbered K-36 class locomotives were seen in operation, those being engines 480, 481 and 482, all built in 1925 by Baldwin for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. Joining the fun on the second day of photography was K-28 class No. 473, built in 1923 by the American Locomotive Company. This small, but mighty 2-8-2 was an unexpected surprise, joining engine 481 for a doubleheader to Silverton. So sit back, and enjoy this hour long presentation of "Steam in the San Juan Mountains", only from Georgian Rail & River Productions!
