TUJ Philosophy Lecture Series Vol. 5: Transience/Difference | Wednesday, November 22, 2017

Rein Raud, professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Helsinki and Asian Cultural Studies at the Estonian Institute of Humanities, analyzes the importance of the category of difference in the works of Giles Deleuze, Jacques Derrida, and Martin Heidegger in relation to the category of transience in Buddhist thought, notably in the work of Dogen — both difference and transience are here taken as fundamental characteristics of Being. Finally, Raud approaches these concepts by analyzing various metaphysical discourses that articulate them. The purpose of this talk is to demonstrate the possibility of comparative analysis.
