At the end of winter, the battery gave out. There were no complaints: it had been through six winters without requiring a single charge. During the replacement, one of the battery mounting studs inexplicably snapped with just a little force from a small wrench. The windshield washer motor (a top-quality Continental, by the way) refused to work when the outside temperature dropped below -13 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, the freezing temperatures meant minimal chemical spills on the roads. I replaced it myself, but the little thing turned out to be quite expensive, over 1,100 rubles. One frosty day, the Lada Vesta overheated. I blamed the thermostat, but it turned out to be the water pump. Its impeller had failed at 108,000 km. If we'd replaced the pump earlier, at 90,000 km, along with the timing belt kit, there wouldn't have been a problem. But the AvtoVAZ regulations for our car only require changing the belt and pulley at 180,000 km, and don't mention the water pump. So we experimented – we drove as instructed. At around 110,000 km, we first replaced the burnt-out corrugated pipe (for the second time!), then the connection between the middle and rear exhaust sections. The second time, we cleaned the drain under the windshield. It clogs very quickly, and water floods the interior. And then, toward the end of winter, the windshield defroster filaments started failing.
