Die Quappe im Rheingebiet - Biologie der Quappe

The burbot had long been absent from the Rhine. Now, fishing associations throughout North Rhine-Westphalia are once again working to reintroduce this mysterious fish species! The project "The Burbot in the Rhine Region – A Hidden Fish Returns to Rivers and Still Waters" is funded by the Federal Program for Biological Diversity through the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with funds from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. The North Rhine-Westphalia Watercourse Foundation is implementing the project locally with the support of the Rhineland Fisheries Association and the North Rhine Fisheries Cooperative. The burbot for release come from the Ruhrverband's breeding program (originating in the Lippe region of North Rhine-Westphalia). The project is further supported by partners along the Lippe River, namely the Westphalia-Lippe State Fisheries Association and the ABU-Soest (Association of German Fisheries Enthusiasts).
