My Pond Is OVERFULL… So I Checked How Deep It Really Is!
Pond Aeration: • The #1 Thing Your Pond Needs (Or It Turns ... Fixing a Pond Leak: • Can a Backhoe Fix This Leaking Pond? My pond is overfull, the overflow is running, the swamp is filling back up, and somehow… we’re still chasing leaks. After another big rain, the pond is sitting over 100% full, so today I’m opening up the capped overflow, pumping down the swampy area, and taking the boat out to see how deep this pond really is several years after digging it. When we built this pond back in 2019, we thought we had spots around 25 feet deep. But after years of filling, runoff, sediment, and real-world pond life, I wanted to see what the actual depth looks like now. I used a 300-foot tape and checked several areas around the pond, including the aerators, dock, beach, and deeper center section. The pond is looking better than ever this early in the year — clear water, full pool, good aeration, and plenty of water movement — but there are still some trouble spots. The capped overflow has its own weird story, the swamp still needs pumping, and I’m pretty confident we still have pond water finding its way into old clay field tile from when this area was still a field. This is real pond ownership: some things are fixed, some things are band-aided, and some things are still on the list. In this video: Why my pond overflow is capped Opening the overflow after heavy rain Pumping down the swampy area Checking pond depth from the boat Finding the deepest spot Looking at aeration performance Inspecting a possible pond leak Talking through a future fix for old clay field tile If you’re building, maintaining, or trying to fix a farm pond, hopefully this gives you a real-world look at what pond ownership actually looks like after several years.
