The Honda Prelude returns after more than 20 years of absence—and in a form few expected. The iconic 1990s coupe returns as a modern e:HEV hybrid, combining a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine with two electric motors. The combined power output is 184 hp and 315 Nm of torque, sent to the front wheels. Honda emphasizes that the Prelude isn't a copy of the Civic e:HEV, although it shares the same technology. However, it has its own character, sportier settings, and the Honda S+ Shift system, which simulates the operation of a traditional gearbox. On the road, it's immediately clear that this isn't just another boring "eco-compact." The Prelude handles smoothly and confidently, and when you press the accelerator, the engine and electric drive interact with each other surprisingly naturally. The steering is precise, and the suspension is stiffer than in the Civic, but still comfortable. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 8 seconds, but the experience is more important: the immediate throttle response and excellent body balance evoke the spirit of old JDM cars, only in a much more mature form. The interior combines modern ergonomics with classic Honda styling: a low-slung cockpit, sport seats, and simple lines reminiscent of the original Prelude generations. Added to this is the full suite of Honda Sensing safety systems, digital instrument clusters, and a minimalist interface without unnecessary bells and whistles. The result? A car that can be both an everyday coupe and a subtle tribute to automotive history.
