He was raised to believe that the alphas were saints, and that they would always be there to protect Jamaa in times of need. Suddenly, he feels himself wondering what it would be like to be on the phantoms' side. He wouldn't have to oblige to the rules. He could be free -- do whatever he wanted. He begins to isolate himself, thinking about all of the power that could be his. These thoughts begin transforming him into a monster, and while he is usually able to control his form, he becomes unable to choose whether he is a normal snow leopard or not. He eventually leaves his loved ones for good in fear of hurting them. Snow is no longer a normal member of society. He has dropped down to the lowest class. A phantom; a demon.
