COOK 2015 - South Australia
Cook is essentially a ghost town on the Trans Australian Railway. It has a caretaker population, and has facilities for resting train drivers. It's 107 kms north of the Eyre Highway. It once had a population of up to 300 during WW2, (April 1942 - October 1943 - Italian POW and Internees) and was basically closed down in 1997 when the railways were privatised and the new owners did not need a support town there, although the diesel refuelling facilities remain.
