The Kismet Train Collision
On June 14th, 2006, two BNSF freight trains traveled along the Stockton Subdivision in California. Those being a southbound manifest, and a northbound unit train. Near Kismet, at 5:51 A.M. that morning, the two trains collided hard head-on. The huge amount of damage caused by the crash makes it astounding that everyone made it out alive. It’s been roughly 20 years since this collision, yet the cause is still vague. Was it human error, or the lack of PTC? We may not know for sure.
