Notch 8 GP38s! Heavy Hauling on the Kankakee, Beaverville & Southern Railroad!

A very successful morning on the KBSR. A Lafayette run was in store in some beautiful summer morning light. A large train made the pair of non-turbocharged 645s actually get a workout in the north central Illiana cornfields, and the fleet of vintage 1970s/early 1980s covered hoppers never ceases to entertain. Enjoy! SB KBS Lafayette Turn, KBS Kankakee Line/KBS Lafayette Line, 7-10-26 KBS 701 GP38M-2 (KBSR) RS3L KBS 702 GP38M-2 (KBSR) Today's train departed the Iroquois Junction shops with 32 cars; 4 plastic pellet loads for Drug Plastics at Oxford, 25 grain loads, likely from Darrow, en route to Lafayette, and 3 stragglers likely returning from one of the two railcar repair facilities the KBS serves. The crew picked up 25 more grain loads at Swanington, making the train 57 cars, and then dropped the 4 Drug Plastics loads at Otterbein dropping it down to 53 cars as they went into Lafayette. 0:00 Iroquois, IL passing the derelict KBS ex-EJE caboose 1:45 Sheldon, IL crossing the TP&W with the old NYC G-style trilight signals 6:38 Earl Park, IN 10:01 Fowler, IN with vintage crossing cantilever and WRRS mechanical bells 12:54 Picking up 25 more loads at ADM in Swanington, IN 13:56 ADM Swanington apparently hadn't seen rail service for most of the year until this point, and it's evident brush clearing hasn't been able to be done yet.
