Liban, la folie de la chirurgie esthétique

They are young, beautiful, and most have had work done from head to toe. In Beirut, getting a nose job or lip fillers is almost commonplace, starting as early as age 20. Lebanon has the highest rate of plastic surgery in the world, and all manner of excesses are permitted. There are even trends: right now, clients are clamoring for the nose of a famous local singer. For those who can't afford it, banks offer special "cosmetic surgery" loans. Lebanese women so frequently go under the knife because, in this country, the competition for husbands is fierce: due to war and emigration, there is only one man for every five women. But there's a downside: this obsession with beauty also creates intense social pressure that is difficult to bear on a daily basis.
