Imagine a headline that shook society to the core... not news of corruption from a monk, not news of a drunk monk, but news of a "pregnant nun." The bulging belly beneath the saffron robe is the most obvious mark of guilt in the eyes of humans. If this were happening in the social media era, how strong would the backlash be? But this is no fiction... This is a true story from 2,500 years ago! The story begins in the city of Rajagriha. A wealthy daughter, a religiously devoted child since childhood, dreamed of becoming a nun. She was forced into a traditional marriage, but her husband allowed her to become a nun at her own will. But fate played a cruel joke... On her last night before ordination, conception was formed in her womb without her knowing it! As her belly began to grow, gossip spread. The extremely strict monk Devadatta ordered her to disrobe: "Disrobe this nun! Don't bring disgrace to the Sangha!" But the innocent nun refused to accept the verdict. She demanded: "The Buddha is my teacher. Let him be the judge!" The Buddha used A transparent "justice process" was established, appointing Phra Upali as judge and inviting King Pasenadi and, crucially, Visakha, a female anatomy expert, to examine the situation. After a thorough examination, Visakha declared, "This nun was pregnant before ordination. She has no blemishes in her precepts!" Purity was proven through wisdom, not by miracles. When the time came, a golden-skinned baby boy was born. King Pasenadi adopted the child and raised him in the palace. He named him "Kassapa," but was also called "Kumara Kassapa" (the well-nourished Kassapa). However, palace life was no paradise... Children teased him, calling him "a fatherless child" and "a parasite child." Until he was seven years old, he demanded the truth. The king told the truth and pointed to the nunnery. The boy decided... "If my mother is virtuous, I should return to her." He immediately requested ordination, breaking free from the golden cage! 🎧 In this episode, you'll hear: ⚖️ The scandalous case that nearly destroyed the lives of a mother, her child, and Buddhism 🔍 Transparent justice in the Buddha's time: Judges + witnesses + forensic science 👑 King Pasenadi adopts an orphan in the palace 💔 Being called a "parasite's child" and finding one's identity 🙏 A 7-year-old's decision to become a monk 🔥 15 "Termite Mound" mysteries from the gods - the key to enlightenment ✨ Vammika Sutta: Digging the mind to dismantle defilements 🏆 Achieving Arahantship through wisdom 💀 Phraya Payasi: The materialistic king "There is no next world" Killing to prove it! 🗡️ Brutal Experiment: Imprisoning a Person in a Clay Pot + Dissecting to Find the Soul + Weighing the Dead 🎯 8 Wise Similes: The Executioner, the Excrement Pit, the Dream, the Burning Iron, the Silent Conch, the Pig Man 🏅 Turning Enemies into Friends with Wisdom 📿 Ettakka: The One Who Exalts Himself with Exquisite Teachings ⚠️ Lessons from King Payasi: Giving Without Sincerity 🔗 Related Content: Kumara Kassapa: From Mistletoe to the Great Debater Vammi Sutta: The Termite Mound Riddle and the Exploration of the Mind Phaya Payasi Sutta: The Debate on the Next Life Natthika Ditthi vs. Buddhism The Justice Process in the Time of the Buddha Visakha the Great Upasika Devadatta: The Disunity of the Sangha Upali: The Expert on the Vinaya Debate Through Analogies Materialistic vs. Idealistic Philosophy 📚 References: Suttanta Pitaka (Vamika Sutta, Payasi Sutta) Theragātā/Therīgātā Commentaries and Commentaries Biography of the Eminent Disciples Vinaya Pitaka History of Buddhism Ancient Indian Philosophy Ancient Forensic Science Research 🙏 Thank you to all listeners.
