Jamal Sabri: The Forgotten Poet Of Aligarh
Urdu/Hindi Video Podcast Presumed lost for decades, Jamaliyāt, a literary treasure and collection of Urdu poet Jamal Sabri (1899-1987) was painstakingly recovered by Sabri’s grandson, Sajid Raza Khan. Edited by Mehr-e-Alam Khan, a distinguished connoisseur of Urdu poetry, Jamaliyāt has been published by Rekhta Publications. Sajid Raza Khan and Mehr e Alam Khan discuss Jamaliyāt and the fascinating stories about the poet with Pervaiz Alam in this video podcast for Cine Ink, a hub of Urdu and Hindi podcasts based in London. From a young age, Jamal Sabri immersed himself in Urdu poetry under the mentorship of Seemab Akbarabadi (1882–1951), a prolific poet with over 50 books to his name and a disciple of Nawab Mirza Khan Daagh Dehlvi (1831–1905). Abid Raza Khan, known as Jamal Sabri, was born in 1899 in Aligarh into a family steeped in poetic tradition, on the cusp of a rapidly changing world. His father, Hasan Raza Khan, was a respected lawyer, while his brother, Hamid Raza Khan—celebrated as Tabassum Nizami—gained acclaim as a poet and scholar with numerous published works. Another sibling, Zahid Raza Khan, known as Kabab Aligarian, captivated audiences with his witty, humorous poetry. Poetry flowed through Sabri’s veins, giving life to thousands of verses that stirred hearts and minds. He inspired a generation of poets, including his nephew, Padma Bhushan Saghar Nizami, a renowned poet, writer, and broadcaster. #cineinkpodcast #JamalSabri #Jamaliyat #Jamāliyāt #UrduPoetry #Aligarh #Urdushairi #MehreAlamKhan #SajidRazaKhan #pervaizalam #urdupodcast #UrduBagh CineinkLondon #SeemabAkbarabadi
