Synchronising four track tape recorder to MIDI clock w/ Yamaha YMC10 Midi Converter & MT-50 recorder

How to synchronise a four track tape recorder to MIDI clock using a Yamaha MT-50 fourtrack tape recorder and Yamaha YMC10 Midi Converter w/ Yamaha DX21 bass synth and Yamaha RX5 drum machine (although it would be the same basic process for any sync converter and tape recorder). the music is a version of my track Home3D from my new album which I’ve just uploaded to my BandCamp for the 40th BandCamp Friday, the upload also includes a full version this fourtrack n MIDI mix as a bonus track (links below). Chapters: Basic set up: 0:00 Demo track (ako - Home3D): 8:45 What can go wrong with this: 13:22 Here’s how it works: The Yamaha YMC10 MIDI clock to tape sync (FSK) converter, when it receives MIDI clock, will generate an audio based synchronisation signal. This synchronisation signal can then be recorded on one of the 4 tracks of the fourtrack tape recorder (MT-50). This recording of the synchronisation signal can then be played back from the tape into the YMC10 and the YMC10 will convert this back into MIDI clock. This creates a MIDI master clock that’s synch’ed up to the audio content on the other 3 tracks of the tape, meaning you can have things like drum machines and sequencers (in this case Ableton live is being used as a sequencer to trigger drums on the Yamaha RX5 and bass synth on the Yamaha DX21) synched up to audio content on the tape and they will start/stop and run in time with whatever audio you have recorded on the tape. It was a different way of working and sounded cool I think!
