Haslemere Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Surrey, and around 40 miles southwest of central London, is the town of Haslemere. Geographically, Haslemere is situated in between the Surrey Hills to the north and the South Downs National Park to the south, at the southwestern tip of Surrey where it borders West Sussex and Hampshire. The first recorded reference of Haslemere dates back to 1221 from when it was awarded its first charter. A second charter was granted by Richard II in 1397, and a third was granted by Elizabeth I in 1596. Today, this special status is celebrated with the Charter fair, held once every two years in the High Street. With the River Wey running just south of Haslemere town centre, a series of watermills were established around the medieval era. Historical industry in Haslemere has included wool and silk as cottage industries, and iron making, utilising the local watermills. In 1859 the railway arrived in Haslemere. Today it is situated on the Portsmouth Direct Line around halfway between Woking and Portsmouth Harbour. Direct trains to London Waterloo take around one hour. Haslemere's postcode, GU27, is the 10th most expensive postcode in Surrey (true as of January 2020 according to SurreyLive).
