Introducing the Atlantic Corridor

The Atlantic Corridor is one of the nine priority corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), through which the European Union seeks to create a single multimodal network of transport infrastructure, for both passengers and freight, with identical quality standards. The Atlantic Corridor deploys a robust and strategic intermodal infrastructure that strengthens the connectivity of freight and passenger transport in the north, south, centre and west of Spain. This infrastructure is structured through an interoperable multimodal network, integrated into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), and made up of: -A high-capacity railway network. -Strategic port connections. -Airport infrastructure with a logistics function. -Key motorways for freight flows. -Specialised intermodal terminals. -International connections. -Urban nodes. All with a clear horizon: to complete the core network by 2031, and to achieve more sustainable and efficient mobility aligned with European standards. In Spain, this involves investment in 5,413 kilometres of railway infrastructure, 2,880 kilometres of roads, nine ports, five airports, nine freight terminals and 30 urban nodes. These actions, beyond the symbolic name of this corridor, the Atlantic Corridor, affect 13 Autonomous Communities: the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Castilla y León, Navarre, Aragon, La Rioja, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.
