PRiMi 20240917 - John Butcher and Ståle Liavik Solberg
After a first duo meeting at Café Oto in 2015 that resulted in their record «So beautiful, it starts to rain» (Clean Feed) Butcher and Solberg have been playing as a duo through several tours in Scandinavia and England. Using unconventional material for a sax/drums duo they tend to play sets that move forward in a relaxed way, although they are confrontational in the way they challenge each other. Both musicians have highly developed extended techniques as a key element of their sound, but this duo stays true to the idea of free improvisation and also uses strong melodies and repetetive beats, taking different paths each time.
