In this video, I’m walking through a real soapmaking failure from start to finish: a cold process soy wax and stearic acid experiment that immediately started solidifying, separating, morphing color, leaking fragrance, and developing lye pockets. On paper, the recipe looked reasonable. In the pot, the combination of soy wax, stearic acid, murumuru butter, and illipe butter created a narrow working window that moved faster than the emulsion could stabilize. Instead of pretending the batch was fine or throwing it straight in the trash, I treated it like a safety issue first. I corrected the missing oil, rebatched the soap, checked the pH using a 10% soap solution, recolored the batch, refreshed the fragrance, and used a propylene glycol, glycerin, and sorbitol solvent blend to turn the failed cold process soap into a homemade melt and pour style soap. This is not commercial melt and pour base, but it is a remeltable handmade soap rescue — and the final bars surprised me.
