BMW iX Luxury Electric car; Family car: BMW iX Review & Road Test

The new BMW iX looks stunning in our opinion. Whatever you think of the nose, or the strange shaped rear end, you definitely wont mistake this car for anything else thats for sure. BMW has definitely gone to great lengths engineering its first bespoke-platform EV since the i3. The xDrive50 version we tested, will set you back at least £94,000 which will buy you a 105 KWH battery giving 380 miles of range when fully charged, a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of around 125 MPH. The iX also has a 195kW charging capability that can add an extra 93 miles of range in just 10 minutes on a supercharger, giving you just enough time to grab a coffee from the service station. The BMW iX may not float your boat in the looks department, however, this car has a drag coefficient of just 0.25, which means you go further for less money. The wheels are aerodynamically optimised, and designed to break in an accident. The grille is made of 'self-healing' plastic and has a heated element to make sure the sensors, including a long-range radar and a forward-facing camera for the augmented-reality nav-guidance, will keep working even in silly minus temperatures. Inside the BMW iX the cabin is airy and spacious. For even more light you can option the Sky Lounge panoramic roof, which goes opaque at the touch of a button for an extra £3,000. If you are thinking of investing in a luxury all electric SUV then the BMW iX is well worth a test drive. We found it fun to drive, comfortable to sit in and exceptionally good at making you feel like you've just stepped into the near future, which is exactly what a modern top end electric car should be like.
