The History Behind BEYBLADE (Japanese Spinning-Tops)

Did you know that BEYBLADE was and continues to be inspired by a game that already existed in Japan several centuries ago? Through investigating premodern and early modern Japanese sources, this video provides an overview of the history that shaped BEYBLADE into what we know today. Herein, light is shed on especially the "baigoma" ("shell spinning-tops") that can be understood as the direct ancestor of BEYBLADE.
