Golfers on world’s longest course battle ball stealing birds and wombat holes ⛳ | ABC Australia

About 20,000 travellers have crossed the Eyre Highway with a golf buggy or at least a club in tow, battling the rough and elements of the longest golf course in the world, the Nullarbor Golf Links. The course snakes along the roadhouse route from Ceduna in South Australia to Kalgoorlie in WA. It began 11 years ago as a way to encourage motorists to slow down and enjoy the attractions of the Nullarbor, which would generate business for the isolated roadhouses and also reduced fatigue-related accidents on the highway. Course manager Alf Caputo says 20,000 people have officially played each hole with thousands more attempting one or two holes while traveling east or west. The course is not for the faint-hearted – there’s kangaroos, wombat holes, ball stealing crows and a very rough fairway to deal with. The annual Chasing the Sun golf tournament was held this year after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic.
