Diamond Shapes for Roller Derby
A quick primer on the diamond shape, a variation on the traditional tripod (sometimes called a “reverse tripod”) that you can use in a variety of ways. While lots of teams end up in diamond-like positions subconsciously, training it intentionally for specific situations can help you be more adaptable in your shape if you have a bouncy jammer, are moving against offensive screens, need to switch to zone on a start, and more. This video goes over what the diamond is, how to catch a jammer at speed in the shape, how to transition in and out of it when you’re already blocking a jammer, and how to fix it if the jammer sneaks in-between bodies.
