Fluid Mechanics Lesson 15A: One-Dimensional Compressible Flow in Ducts
Fluid Mechanics Lesson Series - Lesson 15A: One-Dimensional Compressible Flow in Ducts. In this 15-minute video, Professor Cimbala starts with a quick review of compressible flow concepts, such as Mach number regimes. He then discusses the importance of thermodynamics for compressible flows, in particular the isentropic and adiabatic approximations. He then defines and discusses stagnation properties. Finally, he analyzes the conservation of mass equation for one-dimensional duct flow, comparing and contrasting the supersonic vs. subsonic flow behavior. He works through two example problems as well. This video incorporates material from Sections 12-1 and 12-2 of the Fluid Mechanics textbook by Cengel and Cimbala, Edition 4.
