The Ukrainian military has once again launched a large-scale drone strike against Russia. The attacks targeted Russian naval vessels and air defense radars in the Crimean Peninsula, as well as Moscow, Belgorod, and Kursk. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it shot down 660 drones, and foreign media have assessed this as the largest drone attack targeting the Crimean Peninsula since the outbreak of the war. Tensions have risen in the Crimean Peninsula as a state of emergency has been declared. We can overcome this situation together.] This airstrike took place just hours after Ukrainian President Zelenskyy announced that he had approved the Security Service's "Operation 40 Days," aimed at pressuring Russia to end the war. While specific details of the operation were not disclosed, it appears that long-range drone attacks led by the Security Service will be the core of the operation. The Ukrainian military has recently been concentrating its strikes on Russian energy facilities while simultaneously escalating its offensive targeting Moscow and the Crimean Peninsula. In response, Russia has continued airstrikes on major Ukrainian cities such as Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumi, resulting in a series of casualties. Russia publicly expressed dissatisfaction after reports emerged that U.S. President Trump highly praised Ukraine's long-range drone capabilities and agreed to additional sanctions on Russia's energy sector. The Financial Times reported that while U.S. intelligence authorities assessed Russia as having the upper hand as recently as last March, there is a growing view that Russia may not be able to achieve its war objectives. Although the U.S. has reaffirmed its willingness to mediate, it remains uncertain whether it can generate momentum for peace talks with Ukraine, given that negotiations to end the Middle East war have only just begun in earnest.
