If I Were Moving to Florida Today, I’d Look HERE First If I were moving to Florida today, knowing what I know now as someone born and raised in Sarasota, these are the areas I would look at first. I grew up on Florida’s Gulf Coast, left the area, lived in other places, traveled around the country and beyond, and eventually came back to Sarasota for a reason. After living in and comparing places like Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, New York, Pennsylvania, South America, Texas, California, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and more, my wife and I chose to build our life here. Now, four homes later, two kids later, and after building a real estate business around helping people relocate to Florida’s Gulf Coast, these are the areas I would personally consider if I were moving here today. Lakewood Ranch gives you convenience, schools, trails, town centers, sports, restaurants, and a complete master-planned lifestyle. Venice Island gives you coastal charm, walkability, beach access, and small-town Florida living. Palmer Ranch and South Sarasota give you practical Sarasota access, proximity to Siesta Key and Nokomis, the Legacy Trail, and strong day-to-day livability. North Venice, Nokomis, and Wellen Park give you newer construction, resort-style communities, amenities, growth, and access to Venice, Nokomis Beach, Manasota Key, and Downtown Wellen. Palma Sola and West Bradenton give you coastal mainland living, Anna Maria Island access, Robinson Preserve, boating, mature neighborhoods, and overlooked value. The biggest takeaway: the goal is not just to find the best city in Florida. The goal is to find the version of Florida that actually fits your lifestyle, budget, timeline, and long-term goals.
