How LittleBigPlanet's Graphics Changed over Time

Splicing together clips into the split-screen format was surprisingly difficult. LittleBigPlanet 3 for PS3 stutters or pauses almost every time the camera angle changes, and I had to manually edit that out to synchronize it. Also, sometimes the PS4 will complete LBP2 cutscenes up to SEVEN FRAMES EARLY. I do not know what causes it, but it was pretty cumbersome to sync up. LBP2 was the only game that played the DC cutscene's dialogue correctly. I used information from this technical breakdown on some blog from 2011: https://imagequalitymatters.blogspot.... Not the most trustworthy source for sure, so I did manually validate all their claims. All work on LBP3 was completely original. Tidbits I couldn't fit into the video: While some earlier videos of mine are of PS3 modding, the footage in this video is captured entirely from an unmodified PS3 and PS4. (because i have multiple PS3s for reasons even I don't know) Volumetric lighting is unexplained because I am not entirely sure whether LittleBigPlanet volumetric lighting is the real-time lighting or what it's typically used for in the industry. LBP2 changed motion blur. In LittleBigPlanet 1, individual objects could be blurred. Afterwards, only the full screen could be blurred as it was changed to a post-process effect. The LBP1 light "modes" (normal, foggy, shadow) were interpreted by LBP2 and 3 as 0%, 50%, and 67% fogginess, respectively. Horrible Gas and Explosions lost their flame presumably because they were deferred rendering effects. In my reading, LBP1 used deferred rendering, but Media Molecule completely rewrote the rendering engine to be forward rendering only from LBP2 onward. I presume they just couldn't be bothered to replicate the smoke, but it's truly anyone's guess. LBP3 for PS3 has a different background because it doesn't support importing levels from LBP1 and 2. I had to save the level as an object and then import it. I don't know why they did this. Originally, I was going to use the opening "cutscene" from the Metal Gear Solid pack, but it doesn't work very well with this split-screen format and the physics of it changed in LBP2 a lot for reasons beyond my comprehension. When setting up the comparisons I noticed different versions of the game behaved differently on the first frame. LittleBigPlanet 2 would take 1-2 frames to load in all the different textures and models. LBP3 for PS3 was motion-blurred. PS4 mostly did not display any first-frame behavior but occasionally took a moment to load details. -- TIMESTAMPS -- 00:00 LittleBigPlanet 1 01:27 LittleBigPlanet 2 02:58 LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS3) 04:34 LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS4) [4 : 48 to skip foreword] 6:30 Graphics Comparisons 6:35 "The Legend of Bunkum" 9:00 "Who's Watching the Watchtower?"
