SOUNDBITE (English) Hayley Westenra, Classical singer: "I was just out in Basra last week, I helped to launch the poppy appeal over there and I sang for the troops. Having been out there and seen the conditions they are having to work under, I am just in awe of their courage, their bravery and I just really want to do my bit really and help get people behind this year's poppy appeal because they are doing a tremendous job out there and they really do need our support, they deserve it." 7. SOUNDBITE (English) Hayley Westenra, Classical singer: "The work they are doing, the Royal British Legion, it is relevant to young people today, it's our peers that are out there serving. It would be amazing to get more young people involved in this year's poppy appeal. There is still time to get involved and help sell these poppies." 9. Various of Ansell selling poppies 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Jonathan Ansell, Classical singer: "I always wear a poppy, every single November, I think it's really important that people get a poppy and for me being a young person selling it is really good as well, bringing a bit of youth into it and showing people that it's current." 11. Westenra said she recently sang for British troops in Basra, Iraq, where she launched the Legion's 2008 Poppy Appeal. She said after seeing the conditions her peers were working under, she wanted to do more. The Poppy Appeal takes place in the two-week period running up to Remembrance Sunday on 9 November 2008 and Armistice Day on 11 November 2008.
